Yesterday we met with Dr. V and one of her nurses to discuss the next steps. I have been so excited about this appointment and it was a little bit anticlimactic.
What was very exciting was that I made weight!! I couldn't believe my eyes when I weighed myself and was the exact weight as my goal. When I walked in to the doctor's office the doctor said, "Hello skinny," which was awesome.
The doctor quickly ran through the different stages of IVF and then had me sit with the nurse. The nurse gave us a stack of informational sheets and went through the details of the process. The first step is getting approval from my insurance company. They said that they were going to submit everything by the end of the day and that we should hear back in 2-4 weeks. My insurance company is supposed to be pretty quick so they thought that we might hear back in a week.
If we are approved (fingers freaking crossed!), then they will order my medications that same exact day. Since I'm already on birth control now, the nurse said that I'd be able to start lupron immediately. That means that if we get approved a week from now, realistically I could be starting my injections on April 25th, which is 8 days away. CRAZY!
In addition to the lupron, I will be taking gonal-f and menopur. I will have the HCG trigger shot and then start progesterone shots after the transfer. One thing that I learned is that they will be doing a 5 day transfer instead of a 3 day. Dr. V said that the concern is that I will respond too well to the medications. She also mentioned that they may not be able to get eggs from my left ovary since it is typically hard to visualize with an internal ultra sound. The doctor said that they may be able to see it since ovaries tend to drop a bit during IVF. We will just have to see.
So for now we just have to wait. It is all out of our hands at this point. It feels surreal. In a week's time I could be on my way to our first IVF cycle. One step closer to Baby K!
