Hysterosonogram

Yesterday I went to my doctor's office to have a hysterosonogram, also known as a saline ultrasound or sonohysterogram. My doctor explained that this allows them to have a better look at your uterus and check for any abnormalities like polyps, scar tissue, fibroids, etc.

Here is an example of a normal result (the left picture is before the saline is injected and the right picture is after the saline is injected.)

I was fine all day and then once I got to the office I started to get really nervous. I always have a moment before tests where I think, "crap, what if there is bad news?" Once I saw my doctor I immediately felt better. We went into one of the ultrasound rooms and it started off like a regular ultrasound. First the doctor put in the speculum (always uncomfortable) and then she guided a catheter in. The only thing I felt was a slight twinge. Once the catheter was in, she removed the speculum and injected a saline solution. I didn't feel anything at all when the saline went in. She showed me my uterus on the screen and explained what we were looking at. All that I could see was a black oval on the screen, which apparently was a good thing. The doctor said that "everything looks perfect" and then said, "soon there will be a baby in there." I smiled just thinking about that.

There are a few more hoops that my insurance company needs us to jump through, but we are in pretty good shape to get going. We are meeting with the doctor again in a month to go over my protocol and meds (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I'm pretty freaking excited about it.

The rest of the night we just kept saying, can you believe that we are almost there? In a few months I could be pregnant. It's crazy and exciting and nerve racking.
